The development trend of cameras– binocular/multi-lens cameras

In recent years, with the acceleration of urbanization and the increasing awareness of home security among consumers, the growth of the consumer security market has sped up. There has been a rising demand for a variety of consumer security products such as home security cameras, smart pet care devices, child monitoring systems, and smart door locks. Various types of products, such as cameras with screens, low-power AOV cameras, AI cameras, and binocular/multi-lens cameras, are emerging rapidly, continuously driving new trends in the security industry.

With the iterative upgrades in security technology and evolving consumer demands, devices with multiple lenses have become the market’s new favorite, garnering increasing attention from both the market and consumers. Traditional single-lens cameras often have blind spots in their field of view. To address this issue and achieve a wider viewing angle, manufacturers are now adding more lenses to smart cameras, shifting towards binocular/multi-lens designs to provide broader coverage and reduce monitoring blind spots. At the same time, binocular/multi-lens cameras combine the functionality that previously required multiple devices into a single product, significantly reducing costs and improving installation efficiency. Most importantly, the development and upgrade of binocular/multi-lens cameras align with the differentiated innovation that security manufacturers are pursuing in an increasingly competitive market, bringing new growth opportunities to the industry.

Current characteristics of cameras on China market:
• Price: Cameras priced below $38.00 account for about 50% of the market share, while leading brands are focusing on launching new products in the higher price range of $40.00-$60.00.
• Pixels: 4-megapixel cameras are the dominant products, but the mainstream pixel range is gradually shifting from 3MP and 4MP to 5MP, with an increasing number of 8MP products appearing.
• Variety: Multi-camera products and outdoor bullet-dome integrated cameras remain popular, with their sales shares exceeding 30% and 20%, respectively.

Currently, the main types of binocular/multi-lens cameras on the market include the following four categories:
• Image Fusion and Full-Color Night Vision: Using dual sensors and dual lenses to separately capture color and brightness, the images are deeply fused together to produce full-color images at night without the need for any supplementary lighting.
• Bullet-Dome Linkage: This combines the features of bullet cameras and dome cameras, offering both a wide-angle lens for panoramic views and a telephoto lens for detailed close-ups. It provides advantages such as real-time monitoring, precise positioning, enhanced security, strong flexibility, and ease of installation. Bullet-dome linkage cameras support both static and dynamic monitoring, offering a dual visual experience and truly achieving modern smart security.
• Hybrid Zoom: This technology uses two or more fixed-focus lenses in the same camera (e.g., one with a smaller focal length, like 2.8mm, and another with a larger focal length, like 12mm). Combined with digital zoom algorithms, it allows for zooming in and out without significant pixel loss, compared to purely digital zoom. It offers faster zooming with almost no delay compared to mechanical zoom.
• Panoramic Stitching: These products work similarly to professional surveillance camera stitching solutions. They use two or more sensors and lenses within a single housing, with slight overlap in each sensor’s image. After alignment, they provide a seamless panoramic view, covering approximately 180°.

Notably, the market growth for binocular and multi-lens cameras has been significant, with their market presence becoming increasingly prominent. Overall, as AI, security, and other technologies continue to evolve and as market demand shifts, binocular/multi-lens surveillance cameras are poised to become a key focus in the consumer IPC (Internet Protocol Camera) market. The continuous growth of this market is an undeniable trend.
